It’s a hectic time for you and for your teachers, so take some time during the upcoming holiday season to enjoy yourselves and recharge. ASSOCIATION CONFERENCES

Our Spring Seminar Feb. 27th 2012 held in Irvine was very successful. Seventy + attendees enjoyed the lively interactive sessions on "Inquiry" presented by Ellen Alquist, International consultant on Learning Theory. Her power points are now on the website for everyone to use and enjoy.

Our 2012 Fall Forum will be held October 29th in downtown San Jose at the Sainte Claire Hotel. The overall focus of the day will be on "Promoting Access to the IB Through Fundraising", a topic of great interest to all three IB Programmes in the state. Your Association is beginning to work with PRX Fundraising which has specialized in 35 years of pairing social causes and corporate sponsors. Watch the website for details of the agenda for the 29th as they become finalized. Put the date on our calendars!

ROUNDTABLES

There are three roundtables currently scheduled for spring and fall of 2012. The first for PYP teachers will be held May 10th in Stockton at the University of the Pacific. The second.for PYP teachers will be in Walnut at the Quality Inn and Suites. Both registration forms and information are on the CAWS website. The final one will be held in November for MYP/PYP teachers in San Diego at Roosevelt Middle School. Details are not firm on this one but keep checking the website.

LEGISLATION

February 13th of 2012, a group of CAWS representatives went to Sacramento to participate in a legislation day set up by Barrett Snyder of SIA, our lobbying firm. We spent the day moving around the capitol from legislator to legislator explaining the merits of the IB. The day was successful. We were well received and our discussions fruitful. We want to increase our presence in Sacramento and make more legislators aware of the benefits of the IB to all students. You can help by contacting your local legislator to schedule a meeting with them or have them come to your school to see the IB Programme in action. This has to be a joint effort between the Association and the schools that teach the IB. Please help us!

COLLEGE AND UNIVERSITY FAIR

The College of International Studies will again present its college fair at the French American International School on 150 Oak Street in San Francisco on September 16th from 1 to 3pm. A flyer will be available on the website soon. The contact for this event is Ashley Rochman, ashleyr@frenchamericansf.org.

2. THE IBCC

Natasha DeFlorian from IBA in Bethesda is the Manager for the new IBCC Program which we featured in 2011 at our CAWS Fall Forum. She has sent this message for all interested parties.

In order for a school to be authorized to offer the IBCC, it must be authorized by the IB to implement it. If any of your member schools are interested in applying to become authorized to offer the IBCC, please encourage them to complete the Expression of Interest form, in order to inform the IB of their interest and to request additional information.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or require any additional assistance. I look forward to working with you throughout this process.

Kind regards,
Natasha Deflorian

If you are interested in the application timelines and any powerpoints that Natasha has for schools’ use, contact her at natasha.deflorian@ibo.org

We are in the process of updating the schools information on the website. If there have been changes at your school, let me know.
